SAN DIEGO - No. 3 seed USC pulled away in the second half to claim a 12-6 victory over Arizona State in the MPSF quarterfinals. The Trojans improve to 18-6 on the season, while the Sun Devils fall to 21-11.
USC took an early 3-1 advantage after the first eight minutes of action and was able to maintain its two-goal lead (5-3) at the half as the Trojans and Sun Devils swapped a pair of tallies in the second quarter. The Women of Troy started to pull away in the third frame, however, scoring four times to extend their lead to 9-5.
USC carried its momentum into the final stanza, scoring three times while only allowing one Sun Devil goal at the 5:05 mark to run away with the win and advance to Saturday's semifinals.
Veronika Bartunkova and Forel Davies paced the USC offense with three goals apiece. Addison McGrath led Arizona State with three goals and Caylinn Wallace notched a game-high nine saves.
