Aztec Water Polo Ranked No. 6 in National Preseason Poll; Hosts Alumni Game on Saturday

Jan. 25, 2008

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's water polo team, which was ranked No. 6 in the nation in a preseason poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association earlier this week, will host its alumni game on Saturday, Jan. 26 at the Aztec Aquaplex. The match is scheduled to start at noon PT.

San Diego State is coming off an unprecedented 2007 season that saw the Aztecs earn their first-ever at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. SDSU, which finished fourth at the national championships, compiled a 29-10 overall mark, establishing a new school record for victories in a season.

The Aztecs will return 11 letterwinners from last year, including junior All-Americans Anna Gonzales and Jenna Schuster. Gonzales, a third-team selection, had an outstanding sophomore campaign, compiling 80 goals, 33 assists and 55 steals. Schuster, who was also an all-MPSF honoree, led the 2007 squad with 84 goals, ranking her third all-time for scores in a season.

Also returning are senior co-captain Becca Ur (28 goals, nine assists, 36 steals) and junior Erinn Greenwood (45 goals, 45 assists, 44 steals).

The Aztecs will officially open the 2008 season on Thursday, Feb. 7, when No. 10 Hartwick College makes its way to the Aztec Aquaplex for a 2 p.m. showdown.
