Hannasch Named MW Volleyball Player Of The Week
Aug. 27, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State middle blocker Andrea Hannasch has earned Mountain West Volleyball Player of the Week honors for matches played from Aug. 24-26, 2012. It is the fourth weekly honor of her career, one every year, and the second year in a row that Hannasch has been named the first Player of the Week honoree of the season.
Hannasch, a 6-2 senior from New Braunfels, Texas, led the Aztecs to a 2-0 record to start the 2012 season, including a 3-2 upset win over No. 17 California on Saturday night. Hannasch was named to the four-person all-tournament team at the Aztec Invitational after leading SDSU to the tourney championship with wins over Delaware (3-0) and Cal. Against the Blue Hens, she recorded a .643 attack percentage on 11 kills to go along with four digs and six block assists.
Her 19 kills in the win over the 17th-ranked Golden Bears was one shy of her career high as an Aztec. In the deciding set, Cal came back from a 9-5 deficit to get within a point at 12-11 before Hannasch took over. She recorded two of the last three kills for SDSU, including the match winner for the upset victory.
For the week, Hannasch averaged 3.75 kills, 1.38 digs and 1.12 blocks per set, while hitting .545. She averaged 4.62 points per set over eight total sets.
After their wins this past weekend, the Aztecs are receiving votes this week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll. Their point total is the second-highest of teams outside the Top 25, behind only Ohio State.
SDSU continues home action this coming weekend as it hosts the Holiday Inn Mission Valley Aztec Challenge on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. The four-team tournament will open with Utah State taking on Montana on Friday (Aug. 31) at 5:00 p.m. followed by the Aztecs vs. Sacred Heart at 7:30 p.m.
