Five members of the 2002 San Diego State volleyball team have been honored as members of the Mountain West Conference Academic All-Conference team.

Aztec senior middle blocker Nicole Akporiaye is the lone four-year member of the 42-player Academic All-MWC squad. In addition to Akporiaye, three other SDSU athletes are repeat selections: outside hitter Zlatina Anguelova, middle blocker Megan Schauermann and setter Melissa Wright. Junior setter Sara Engstrom is a first-time honoree, having completed her inaugural season at SDSU last fall after transferring from University of Portland.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.
