Aztecs Defeat Air Force in Three

Oct. 29, 2005

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's volleyball team improved to 14-9 overall and 6-4 in the Mountain West Conference tonight after defeating Air Force, 3-0 (30-19, 30-22, 30-13) in Peterson Gym.

Senior Lindsey Noll led the Aztecs with eight total kills and 12.5 points for the night. Freshman Alicia Waller added 11 points, six kills, four aces and a staggering .857 attack percentage. Juniors Melanie Greene and Audra Dent also recorded seven kills, as well as 11.0 and 9.5 points respectively.

Air Force was led by Rebecca Gallegos who had seven kills, five digs and 10 points, as well as Kristin Hamlett who also contributed 10 points along with six kills.

During the first game, the Aztecs and Falcons shared six ties and lead changes, before the SDSU took the lead and won, 30-19. Aztecs' offense proved to be too much for the Falcons in the second game, as they kept the lead throughout the entire game. Yet in the third, the Falcons came out strong to take an early lead over the Aztecs. But thanks to a couple back-to-back kills by Noll, the Aztecs took the lead again and ended the match with a 30-13 victory over the Falcons.

In this meeting against Air Force, the Aztecs were able to remain above a .400 hitting percentage throughout each of the three games played (.452, .435, .444). This is marks the first time this season that the Aztecs have record three consecutive hitting percentages above a .400 percentage range.

The Aztecs return to play on Nov. 4 when they travel to Wyoming for their second meeting with the Cowgirls. The match is slated to start at 7 p.m. PDT and can be followed through Gametracker on the Aztecs' website at www.goaztecs.com.
