Volleyball Wins Second Straight With 3-0 Victory Over Air Force

Oct. 17, 2004

Box Score

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State climbed into a tie for fifth place in the Mountain West Conference with a 3-0 (30-20, 30-23, 30-27) over Air Force Friday evening in Peterson Gym. The win was the second straight for the Aztecs, who improved to 3-4 in league play (3-17 overall). The Falcons saw their record fall to 4-13 as they remained winless in MWC play at 0-5.

Senior Kara Moriarty led SDSU in kills for the second straight match with 10, her third consecutive contest in double figure in kills. Over her last four matches, she is averaging just under four kills a game. Moriarty was the lone Aztec to reach double figures as San Diego State got kills from nine different players in a balanced offensive attack.

The Aztecs hit .357 for the match with a high of .481 in game two. It was the team's best match attack percentage of the season and first time it has cracked the .300 plateau in 2004. Junior Ashley Bowker hit .714 with five kills and no errors while teammate Lindsey Mahan hit .545 with seven kills and just one attack error.

Freshman setter Kristen Castillo served up 44 assists over the three games. In SDSU's past four matches, she is averaging 13.42 set assists per game, well above her season average of just over 10 per contest.

San Diego State continues home action next Friday (Oct. 22) when its will host UNLV at 7:00 p.m. in Peterson Gym.
