Pencil Advances to 400m Finals at Canadian Trials

WINDSOR, Canada - San Diego State's Sherraine Pencil qualified for the finals of the 400-meter dash at the 2008 Canadian Trials on Friday in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Pencil was one of eight athletes to secure a spot in Saturday's championship round with an Olympic berth on the line.

Pencil, who just completed her senior season at SDSU, ran 54.97 seconds to finish in second place in Heat 3 to grab one of six automatic passes to the finals. In a 400 field of 22 athletes, Pencil finished fifth overall.

Pencil will vie for an Olympic team berth on Saturday with the running of the finals set for 1:30 p.m. PT.
