Aztec Track & Field Off To Sea Ray Relays This Weekend
April 7, 2004
Aztecs No. 1 In USTCA Power Rankings
The Aztecs, who have a team score of 336.75, hold a slim lead on second place Kansas State (335.69), while fellow Mountain West Conference foe Brigham Young is third (320.48).
* The team power ranking is a unique system which simulates head-to-head competition between the nation's elite collegiate squads. The system rates teams in the same fashion as a decathlete or heptathlete with points assigned to two athletes in each event contested in a dual meet. Points are assigned on the basis of the quality of performance and schools are not required to participate.
* A year ago, the Aztecs rose to as high as third in the power rankings on April 9, trailing just reigning NCAA team champion South Carolina and the North Carolina.
Aztecs Off To Sea Ray Relays
The meet begins Friday at 8:45 a.m. (EDT) and starts Saturday at 12:40 p.m. The last women's event Friday is the 10,000 meters at 7:45 p.m, while the meet closes with the 4x400 relay at 5:25 p.m.
* SDSU will see some of the top squads in the nation this week, including three teams ranked in the first outdoor poll conducted by trackwire.com. The Aztecs will face the likes of No. 7 South Carolina, No. 9 Tennessee and No. 23 Penn State.
