Whitney Ashley Competes in Discus at World Champs
Aug. 10, 2013
Former San Diego State track and field star Whitney Ashley competed at the IAAF World Championships in the discus throw earlier today in Moscow, Russia.
Ashley, who won a NCAA title in the event for the Aztecs in 2012, finished 24th out of the 26 entrants in the qualification flights with a toss of 146 feet, 4 inches (44.60m). Ashley, however, needed to place among the top 12 to move onto Sunday's final.
Ashley qualified for the World Championships by taking second at the USA Championships in June with a mark of 200-09 (61.19m).
Ashley was a four-time All-American SDSU in just two years after transferring from Cerritos College prior to her junior season. She won back-to-back Mountain West outdoor titles in the discus and shot put in 2011-12 and an indoor championship in the shot put in 2012.
