April 18, 2004
WALNUT, Calif. - San Diego State's Tonette Dyer and Heather Heron led the Aztecs in the final day of the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. Overall, the Aztecs recorded five top-seven results in Sunday's action.
Dyer won the 400-meter OD University/Open division with a time of 51.53, the second fastest time in school history. Dyer's mark is also third fastest time in the NCAA this season entering the weekend. Dyer also took third in the 200-meter invitational at 22.99, finishing just ahead of Olympic gold-medalist Marion Jones. Heron ran two lifetime bests, and broke SDSU's previous best for the season, with marks of 13.26 in the 100 meter hurdles and 59.32 in the 400 meter hurdles. Heron's time in the 100 hurdles earned a third place finish, while her time in the 400 hurdles was good for 12th place in the university/open division. Nicole Ireland also set a season best to finish seventh in the 400 hurdles with her time of 59.35 in the invitaional race. The 4x100 relay team of Tonette Dyer/Nicole Ireland/Heather Heron/Bianca McNair posted an NCAA regional qualifying time of 45.37 to finish fifth in the invitational race. Larnie Boyd/Tonette Dyer/Nicole Ireland/Hollann Givens finished sixth in the 4x400 invitational race with a NCAA time of 3:38.75.
