Track And Field Finishes Day Three Of The Mt. SAC Relays

SAN DIEGO - At one of the biggest meets in the country, the San Diego State women's track and field team finished its third day of competition Friday with three, top 20 performances at the 45th annual Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif.
Aztec senior Melinda Smedley (Stockton, Calif.), who earned MVP honors at last week's Cal-Nevada championships, posted her team's best finish of the day, taking 15th overall in the 400 meters with a time of 55.84. Freshman Bianca McNair (Portland, Ore.) placed five spots behind Smedley in the overall standings in 56.28, while freshman Nicole Carmier (Elk Grove, Calif.) and Hollann Givens (San Diego, Calif.) took 28th (57.94) and 29th (58.00), respectively.
The SDSU middle distance group competed in two events, the 800 and 1,500 meters, on Friday night. Freshman Jamillah Titus (American Canyon, Calif.) led the team in the 800, tying for 16th place in 2:11.46 in the elite field of 41 runners. Senior Jennifer Stakiw (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) came in exactly two seconds behind Titus in 2:13.46, finishing in a tie for 27th. Senior Kylie Edwards (Geelong, Australia), who placed 36th in 2:17.22, and sophomore Alisha Lasswell (Kilbride, Ont.), who took 38th in 2:18.88, rounded out the Aztec participants in the 800.
Almost two hours later, Titus and Edwards were back on the track for the 1,500-meter race, finishing 65th (4:45.49) and 59th (4:39.44) overall.
Lasswell and Carmier were also set to compete in the high jump, while junior Candace Hill (San Diego, Calif.) was entered in the discus, however, results were still unavailable as of late Friday evening.
San Diego State rounds out competition at the Mt. SAC Relays Saturday as 12 Aztecs take part in seven events in addition to both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.
