Women's Tennis Ready for ITA West Regional
Oct. 16, 2013
SAN DIEGO -
Beginning Thursday, October 17, the San Diego State women's tennis team will participate in and act as co-host to the ITA West Regional. The first two days of the tournament will be held at Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma. Beginning Saturday, competition will be held on the SDSU campus at Aztec Tennis Center. The Regional is set to conclude on Monday, October 21.
The ITA action will include singles and doubles play throughout the tournament. The event will welcome schools from all over Southern California, Arizona and Hawaii. For the first two days of the weekend's festivities, first serve is set for 8:30 a.m.
The Aztecs will look to build on their season-opening play at the SDSU Fall Classic I, which was held Sept. 27-29, at the Aztec Tennis Center. At the three-day tournament, San Diego State newcomer Olivia Larsson and the doubles team of Kristin Buth and Laura Antonana Iriarte each reached the championship match in their respective brackets.
Entering regional action, San Diego State will look to its lone senior, Antonana Iriarte, to lead the team. Last season, the San Sebastian, Spain, native had an impressive junior campaign. Antonana Iriarte rode a 14-match win streak and helped the Aztecs to their best season in 20 years that was capped with a 22-6 overall record and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Complete results from each day of the ITA West Regional will be posted on GoAztecs.com.
