The San Diego State women's tennis team will kick off the 2008 fall tournament season on Friday, Oct. 3, when it plays host to the annual SDSU Fall Classic at Aztec Tennis Center.

A field of four teams will compete in the three-day tournament, which will feature individual competition and no team scoring with four flights of singles and two flights of doubles. The action is slated to get underway with doubles at 9 a.m. PT and singles matches to follow.

Among the teams making the trip to Montezuma Mesa are Arizona, Michigan and the University of San Diego.

San Diego State returns six letterwinners while welcoming three newcomers to The Mesa in 2008-09. This year, the Aztecs will be led by a trio of seniors, including Holly Bagshaw, Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov.

Bagshaw, who is ranked No. 117 in the preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, won her final five matches of the 2007-08 campaign to finish with an overall record of 20-15. The Potters Bar, England, native is a two-time Mountain West Conference all-academic team selection.

Cadua, meanwhile, paced the Aztecs last year with a team-best 23 singles victories, putting her in a tie for eighth among the all-time single-season win leaders at SDSU. The San Diego native was recognized for her efforts, earning all-MWC honors while also winning the 2008 West Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award.

Yusupov (Holon, Israel) also had a strong showing in 2007-08, closing out the season with a seven-match winning streak to end the year with a 21-13 overall mark. Yusupov also picked up nine doubles victories with four different partners.
