SDSU Tennis Players Earn All-MWC Honors

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State men's and women's tennis programs took home seven all-Mountain West Conference awards Wednesday night at the annual conference championship banquet. The men's team won four awards, while the women came away with three.
Markus Dickhardt, Armando Carrascosa and Benedikt Stronk were named all-MWC singles selections. This marks the second straight year in which the league's coaches voted Dickhardt as an all-conference performer. Dickhardt finished the 2005 regular season with five consecutive wins and ended with a record of 16-5, including a 9-3 mark at No. 2. For Stronk and Carrascosa, this is the first time the two have been honored by the league. In addition, seniors Daniel Jung and Dontia Haynes were named to the all-MWC doubles team after going 6-5 on the season.
Dita Hauerlandova earned her second consecutive all-MWC singles honor after posting a 13-11 record overall and a 12-8 mark at No. 2. She, along with Alesya Vidov, was also named to the all-MWC doubles team. The pair went 14-8 on the season and posted a record of 12-4 at No. 2. Nina Spaeth and Indra Erichsen were also voted onto the all-conference doubles team by the coaches after going 10-1 on the season, with eight of those wins coming at the top spot. They are also on a six-match winning streak. Erichsen won her fourth award of her career with her fourth different partner.
The SDSU women's team is in action Thursday at 2 p.m., when they take on Utah. The men's team meanwhile will play the winner of the UNLV-Utah match on Friday at 2:30 p.m.. Both conference tournament matches will take place at Barnes Tennis Center.
