Hauerlandova and Nielsen Earn All-MWC Honors

April 26, 2006

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen earned all-Mountain West Conference accolades the league announced Wednesday evening at its annual season-ending banquet. The league's coaches voted Hauerlandova to the all-MWC singles team and to the all-doubles squad with Nielsen as her partner.

A senior from Prague, Czech Republic, Hauerlandova earned her third consecutive all-league singles award after playing the 2006 season at No. 1 singles. In dual-match action, she compiled a 10-13 record, but finished the conference season with a 5-3 mark. Included in her five MWC wins is a victory over then 18th-ranked Olga Boulytcheva of Brigham Young. Her 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 victory that day sealed the Aztecs' 4-3 upset win over the Cougars in Las Vegas, Nev. Later in the season, she defeated then 121st-ranked Emily Kirchem of Colorado State for her second win over a nationally-ranked opponent.

In doubles, Hauerlandova and Nielsen completed the regular season with a team-leading 15-7 record at the No. 1 position. During conference play, the duo went 6-2 and had a streak of five straight wins. Overall, the pair defeated three teams that held a national ranking including New Mexico's third-ranked doubles team of Iva Gersic and Maja Kovacek, 8-3, in Albuquerque.

For Hauerlandova, this is her second straight all-doubles award after being selected last season with Alesya Vidov. Nielsen, a sophomore, is being honored for the first time in her Aztec career.

Hauerlandova, Nielsen and the fourth-seeded Aztecs (15-7; 6-2 MWC) will hit the court Thursday, April 27, when they take on the fifth-seeded Lobos (13-7; 4-4 MWC) in the quarterfinal round of the MWC Championship taking place at Barnes Tennis Center. Match time is set for 2 p.m. PDT.
