SDSU Women's Tennis Draws BYU in Quarters of MWC Championship
April 26, 2010
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
The San Diego State women's tennis team earned the No. 5 seed and will take on fourth-seeded Brigham Young in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West Conference Championship, the league announced Monday. First serve is slated for Thursday, April 29, at 10 a.m. PT at Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Aztecs finished the conference season with a 4-4 mark and in a tie for fifth place with TCU, but earned the higher seed as a result of their 4-3 victory over the Horned Frogs on April 9, in Las Vegas. BYU, meanwhile, is the No. 4 seed after finishing its MWC schedule with a 5-3 record.
Earlier this year, San Diego State was handed a 5-2 loss by the Cougars in Provo on April 1. Then-unranked Brigham Young won the doubles point and four of the six singles matches to upset the No. 74 Aztecs. Despite the loss, SDSU has won three of its last five vs. BYU and has split four matches with the Cougars in MWC Championship play.
The Aztecs will be making their third trip of the year to Las Vegas after playing UNLV on its home court and taking on TCU and New Mexico later in the season. San Diego State finished with a 2-1 record at Fertitta Tennis Complex this year and has won two straight at the facility. Meanwhile in neutral-site matches, SDSU is a perfect 3-0 in 2010.
With a victory over BYU, the Aztecs would play on Friday, April 30, at 2 p.m. PT against the winner of the (1)Utah vs. (8)CSU/(9)UNM winner.
