Aztecs Return to Las Vegas for Matches Against No. 73 TCU, New Mexico
April 6, 2010
SAN DIEGO -
MATCH WEEK RESET
NEW MEXICO (1-15, 0-3 MWC) vs. SAN DIEGO STATE (7-9, 0-3 MWC)
AZTEC STORY LINES
- SDSU, with a different bounce here and there, could easily have a better record than it does at 7-9. Of its nine defeats, five have come by 5-2 scores and three were by 4-3 margins. The Aztecs have played a challenging schedule to date with nine matches coming against ranked foes and seven total road matches, including six vs. nationally ranked teams.
- After narrow 4-3 road losses at No. 50 Pepperdine and No. 59 UNLV, and 5-2 defeats at BYU and No. 49 Utah, the Aztecs travel to Las Vegas looking to stop a four-match skid. San Diego State has not lost five consecutive matches since 2008. In fact, SDSU has only lost five or more matches in a row just three times since 1994.
- Despite its four-match rough patch, San Diego State has received solid play from the top two doubles positions. In the last four outings, SDSU has posted wins from Nos. 1 and 2 three times. Unfortunately, the Aztecs only won the doubles point on two of those occasions.
- San Diego State enters the weekend having experienced mixed results against this week's opponents over the years. In matches with the Horned Frogs, the Aztecs are just 1-4. Against the Lobos, however, SDSU is 17-10 all time and defeated UNM, 4-3, last season in San Diego.
