SDSU Women's Tennis Set For Two-Match Homestand

Aztec women's tennis will look to extend its early success as San Diego State will play host to Washington and Saint Mary's this weekend at Aztec Tennis Center. Competition will begin on Friday, Feb. 1, at 2 pm when SDSU faces the Huskies. The two-match homestand will conclude on Sunday as the Aztecs take on the Gaels at 11 am.
The weekend's play will be the second set of dual matches for San Diego State after posting an early 2-0 record.
Washington is currently ranked at No. 47 in the nation and sits on a 4-1 record which includes wins over Hawai'i, Cal Poly and USF. The Huskies' only loss came at the hands of No. 2 UCLA, 4-0. The Bruins picked up the doubles point and would only need the first three singles points to clinch a victory over Washington.
Jill Hultquist is in her eighth season at the head of the Huskies. Hultquist has guided Washington to four NCAA tournament appearances in the past five years was named the 2009 ITA Northwest Region Coach of the Year.
Saint Mary's will travel to Southern California with a 1-1 dual match record, most recently being swept at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend vs. Cal, 7-0. The No. 7 Bears quickly took the singles point only to win each of the six singles matches in straight sets.
Saint Mary's women's tennis, which is tied for a national rank of 41, boasts one ranked singles player in Jenny Jullien, who sits at No. 64.
Lisa Alipaz, a San Diego State alum, is in her 14th year as the head coach of the Gaels. Alipaz is a five-time WCC Coach of the Year recipient.
