SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State women's tennis team concluded play at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional on Saturday. Due to poor weather at Barnes Tennis Center, the tournament, which is being hosted by SDSU, moved to Aztec Tennis Center.
The fifth-seeded duo of Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar began the day by facing Anna Depenau and Alexandra Victorsson (San Diego). The Aztecs defeated the Torero pair in the round of 16, 8-4. Wais and Aguilar were unable to duplicate their early success as they fell to top-seeded Robin Anderson and Pamela Montez of UCLA, 8-2.
In the consolation draw, Alicia Aguilar faced Cara Brown (San Diego) in her first match of the day. Aguilar was unable to pull out the win, falling to Brown, 6-4, 6-1.
In the lucky loser draw, Kristin Buth faced Channelle Van Nguyen (UCLA), ultimately coming up short, 6-4, 6-1. In the same draw, Tamitha Nguyen was determined to walk away with a victory as she faced Klaudia Malenovska (Long Beach State). Neither of the two would give up easily, although Nguyen would take the match, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5.
Saturday concluded San Diego State's play in the regional. The Aztecs will get back on the court Nov. 9 when they host the SDSU Fall Classic II at Aztec Tennis Center.
Competition will continue for all players still in in the hunt at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional on Sunday.
