SAN DIEGO - The final day of competition at the SDSU Fall Classic I saw San Diego State take four championship titles. The Aztecs took three out of the five singles titles and walked away with one doubles title on Sunday.
In doubles action, seniors Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar finished a perfect weekend to take the doubles title by taking down cross-town rivals Laura Claus and Marta Stojanovic of San Diego in the red bracket by a score of 8-6. In the same draw, Kristin Buth and Michela Casanova teamed up to defeat Augustine Valenzuela of North Texas and Corinne Schnyder of Cal State Northridge, 8-2.
In the black bracket, Dora Somoracz and Tami Nguyen combined for a win over Megan Moore and Tara Panu of Pepperdine with a score of 8-3.
In singles action, Alicia Aguilar topped off her flawless tournament play by facing off against teammate Michela Casanova. Aguilar took the decision and the singles title in the black draw, 6-0, 6-1.
Freshman Tami Nguyen finished her dominant collegiate debut by claiming the singles title in the gold bracket by easily dismissing Cora Brown of San Diego, 6-1, 6-2.
The third SDSU singles title came in the grey draw, as Kristin Buth continued her impressive weekend run by downing Idil Hiciraiafoglu of San Diego, 6-3, 6-4. Buth's spotless record at the tournament was highlighted by upsetting No. 75 Anna Depanu, also of San Diego, on Saturday in a nail biter, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
In the white draw, Somoracz was unable to come away with a victory, falling to Franziska Sprinkmeyer of North Texas, 6-1, 7-6. Wais was also came up short in the red bracket, dropping the decision to Keseniya Barbadush, also of North Texas, 6-4, 6-4.
San Diego State gets back in action on Oct. 18, at the ITA Regionals at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
