SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team continued competition at the season-opening SDSU Fall Classic I on Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs found mixed results on day two of the three-day tournament. Seniors Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar once again emerged victorious in doubles. The duo easily dismissed Man-Son-Hing and Yang of Cal State Northridge, 8-1. Not as fortune in doubles were Dora Somoracz and Tami Nguyen who were defeated by Vykydalova and Starkova of North Texas, 8-3. Also unable to come out with a win in doubles action was Kristin Buth and Michela Cassanova. Barbadush and Sprinkmeyer of North Texas got past the SDSU doubles team with a score of 8-4. In singles action in the black draw, Aguilar downed Anna Yang of Cal State Northridge in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Also finding success in the black draw, Casanova took down Ilona Serchenko of North Texas in three sets, 6-2, 6-7, 6-1. Freshman Nguyen defeated Megan Moore of Pepperdine in the gold bracket, 6-3, 6-2. Nguyen's doubles partner, redshirt freshman Somoracz, dismissed Jessica Warren of Cal State Northridge, 6-2, 6-2. In the red bracket, No. 90 Wais would not go down without a fight. Wais and Stephanie Hoffpair of USD battled in singles action, with the Torero ultimately coming away with the upset, 7-6 (5), 6-7 (5), 6-2. In the same draw, Laura Antonana Iriarte fell to Laura Claus of USD, 6-0, 6-0. In the grey bracket, Buth was determined to walk away with the win, defeating No. 75 Anna Depanu, also of USD, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Day three of the SDSU Fall Classic I is set for Sunday at 9 a.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center. Doubles will start the day off and will be followed by singles action.
