SAN DIEGO -Third-seeded San Diego State earned a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded New Mexico on Thursday at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU, which won the doubles point and three singles matches, advances to Saturday's semifinal round.
SDSU has no issues in doubles as they cruised in its two victories. Emma Cioffi and Laura Antonana Iriarte posted an 8-0 win over Alyssa Caffey and Nikolina Grbac at No. 3. The Aztecs clinched the point when Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar were 8-1 winners in their match vs. Michaela Oldani and Kristin Eggleston at No. 2.
The Aztecs completed the sweep when they won singles matches at Nos. 3, 4 and 6. Antonana Iriarte pocketed a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Caffey at No. 3 ahead of Aguilar, who was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Oldani at No. 4. Kristin Buth clinched the victory over New Mexico when she earned a 6-1, 6-1 in her match vs. Grbac at the sixth position.
San Diego State advances to the semifinals on Saturday when it will face the winner of the No. 2 UNLV-No. 7 Colorado State match. First serve is set for 2 p.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
