SDSU Women's Tennis Closes Out MWC Play by Defeating Air Force

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team won the first seven matches - three doubles and four singles - and coasted to a 5-2 victory over Air Force Saturday at the Aztec Tennis Center.
The win leaves San Diego State 11-10 overall and 4-4 in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons are now 16-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Aztecs won the doubles point, dropping only eight games across the three matches. Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison were 8-3 winners at number, while Julia Trunk and Julia Wais claimed an 8-2 victory at number two. At number three, Alicia Aguilar and Olivia Colman made it a sweep for the Aztecs, with an 8-3 decision.
San Diego State clinched the victory by winning three straight-set singles matches. Trunk, ranked 56th nationally, recorded a 6-0, 6-1 victory at number one singles. That was followed by Cioffi's 6-1, 6-0 victory at number five singles. Roxanne Ellison clinched the team win with her 6-0, 7-6 win at number three.
Julia Wais closed out the scoring for San Diego State, with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 decision at number two singles. Air Force got on the scoreboard, winning a pair of third-set 10-point matches at number four and six.
San Diego State closes out the regular season on Monday when the Aztecs play host to San Diego. Match time is set for 4 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center and admission is free.
