SDSU Women's Tennis Shutout By TCU, 7-0

April 15, 2006

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 33 San Diego State women's tennis team fell short of claiming a share of the Mountain West Conference regular season title with its 7-0 loss to 20th-ranked TCU at Lobo Tennis Center in Albuquerque on Saturday morning. The defeat drops the Aztecs to 15-7 on the season and 6-2 in the MWC, while the Horned Frogs clinch the league crown with a perfect 8-0 conference record (17-6 overall).

The Frogs took control from the outset as they swept all three doubles matches. TCU's Anna Sydorska and Andrea Morgado were first off the court as they defeated Milana Yusupov and Alesya Vidov, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. The Frogs secured the team point when Kewa Nichols and Nicole Leimbach posted an 8-3 win at No. 3. Then for good measure, TCU's top doubles team and 26th-ranked Helena Besovic and Ana Cetnik snapped Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen's six-match winning streak with an 8-3 performance at No. 1 to complete the sweep.

In singles, it was more of the same as the Frogs pocketed all seven matches with five of them coming in straight sets. No. 33 Besovic started things off with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Vidov at second singles with Glorian Lopez following suit with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Esther Cadua at No. 6.

TCU clinched the contest when No. 119 Cetnik posted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Yusupov giving the Horned Frogs a 4-0 lead. Not long after, 12th-ranked Leimbach put forth a 6-3, 6-2 effort against SDSU's top singles player and No. 84 Hauerlandova.

Then to put the finishing touches on the match, Eliska Krausova extended No. 83 Anna Sydorska to three sets, but fell in a third-set, 10-point supertiebreaker, 6-4, 3-6, 11-9. Nielsen suffered a similar fate, falling 4-6, 7-6, 10-6 to Nichols at No. 5.

The Aztecs will return to the courts April 19 when it plays host to San Diego at Aztec Tennis Center. The 2 p.m. PDT match will be the final home contest for the team's lone senior Dita Hauerlandova.
