Aztec Women's Tennis Can't Avoid Washington Sweep In Final Home Match

SAN DIEGO - In its final home match of the season, the San Diego State women's tennis team was unable to take down 35th-ranked Washington Friday at the Aztec Tennis Center. The Aztecs fell to the Huskies, 7-0, in their last non-conference match of the season.
In doubles action, Joyce Ardies and Denise Dy defeated 58th-ranked Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk in first doubles, 8-2. Samantha Smith and Lina Xu clinched the doubles point for the Huskies by topping Esther Cadua and Emma Cioffi in third doubles, 8-4. Roxanne and Sierra Ellison downed Venise Chan and Aleks Malovic in second doubles, 8-7 (2). With the victory the Ellison sisters improved their overall record to 19-8.
In singles action, Washington's Samantha Smith picked up a win over Roxanne Ellison in fourth singles, 6-1, 6-0. In first singles, No. 24 Chan defeated Bagshaw, 6-4, 6-3. Trunk was outmatched in second singles, ultimately falling to 78th-ranked Dy, 6-4, 6-2. In sixth singles Malovic got past Olivia Colman, 6-0, 6-4, while Milana Yusupov fell in fifth singles to Ardies, 6-4, 7-5. Xu defeated Cadua in third singles, 6-3, 7-6 (8), to complete the singles sweep.
