Aztec Women's Tennis Comes Up Short Against No. 24 TCU, 5-2

April 5, 2008

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The San Diego State women's tennis team dropped its fourth straight Mountain West Conference match with a 5-2 loss to No. 24 TCU on Saturday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas, Nev. The Horned Frogs (15-4 overall, 5-0 MWC) won the doubles point before claiming four singles contests for the victory. With the loss, SDSU falls to 7-11 overall and 0-4 in league action.

The Aztecs gave the Frogs a run for their money in all three doubles matches, but was unable to put a point on the board. Esther Cadua and Milana Yusupov fell, 8-6, at the No. 3 spot to Macall Harkins and Kewa Nichols before Nina Munch-Soegaard and Katariina Tuohimaa put TCU up 1-0 with an 8-6 victory over Kathryn Kitts and Eliska Krausova at the top of the ladder.

Holly Bagshaw and Sisse Nielsen were unable to prevent the sweep, dropping an 8-7(2) decision to Maria Babanova and Anna Sydorska. SDSU has now been shut out in doubles action in its last four matches.

TCU jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in singles play as Bagshaw and Trunk fell at the top two spots. Babanova then handed Nielsen a straight-set loss in the No. 6 slot to give the Frogs their eighth consecutive victory.

On a higher note for the Aztecs, Milana Yusupov downed Nichols, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 5 to pick up her ninth win of the dual-match season.

In an epic battle on court four, Cadua outlasted Tuohimaa, 3-6, 7-6(3), 10-7 for her seventh straight victory. The San Diego, Calif., native improves to 19-9 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

San Diego State will look to pick up its first MWC victory when it returns to the courts Sunday, April 6 to face 58th-ranked UNLV at 10 a.m. (PDT).
