Women's Tennis Cruises to 7-0 Win Against CSU

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team opened Mountain West play with a 7-0 sweep of Colorado State on Saturday afternoon at Aztec Tennis Center. With the win, SDSU improved to 5-9 and 1-0 in league play, while the Rams dropped to 3-9 and 0-1 in MW play.
In doubles play, the number three duo of Emma Cioffi and Laura Antonana Iriarte cruised to an 8-2 victory against Adriana Wojakowska and Veronika Wojakowska. At number one, meanwhile, Roxanne Ellison and Sierra Ellison defeated Tori Arneson and Kaley Schultz by the score of 8-3. Then Julia Wais and Alicia Aguilar wrapped up doubles play with an 8-5 win over Emese Kardhordo and Lauren Mulhern.
SDSU continued its momentum in singles play as it won all six matches in straight sets. Julia Wais was first to notch a win as she defeated Tori Arneson, 6-1, 6-2, at number one singles. Kristin Buth was then victorious at number six over Adriana Wojakowska, 6-0, 6-1. Sierra Ellison then clinched the win for the Aztecs at number four singles when she defeated Kaley Schultz by the score of 6-0, 6-2.
At number five, meanwhile, Alicia Aguilar tallied a 7-5, 6-1 victory against Veronika Wojakowska. Laura Antonana Iriarte then defeated Lauren Mulhern, 6-0, 6-3, and Emma Cioffi finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 7-5 win against Natalie Heffron.
The Aztecs return to action tomorrow when they face MW foe No. 61 Wyoming. The conference matchup was originally scheduled for a 10 a.m. PT start, but has been moved up to 9 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center.
