Aztecs Oust Utah, Extend Winning Streak to Seven

LAS VEGAS - San Diego State opened Mountain West Conference play with a convincing 6-1 victory over Utah at Fertitta Tennis Complex on the campus of UNLV Friday morning. The win extends the Aztecs' season-long winning streak to seven and improves their record to 10-4 on the season and 1-0 in league action.
SDSU began the morning by sweeping all three doubles matches for the second consecutive outing and fifth time this season. Dita Hauerlandova and Sisse Nielsen posted their third straight win at the top position thanks to their 8-0 effort over Elizabeth Ferris and Cinthia Saucedo. The rest of the Aztec lineup followed their lead as Alesya Vidov/Eliska Krausova and Esther Cadua/Milana Yusupov both recorded 8-4 victories to secure the doubles point.
With a 1-0 lead, SDSU used the momentum from doubles play to post five singles wins in six matches for the fourth consecutive match to give the contest its final margin.
At No. 1 Hauerlandova defeated Utah's top player in Elizabeth Kwok, 6-4, 6-1, while Krausova ran her winning streak to eight as a result of her 6-1, 6-2 performance over Leigh Walsh. Krausova is now 11-1 for the season at No. 3 singles.
On the final three courts, Yusupov beat Cheyenne Reveche, 6-3, 6-2, for her fourth straight win at No. 4, Nielsen won her fifth in a row after posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Karine Bourdages and Esther Cadua pocketed her second consecutive win at No. 6.
The No. 36 Aztecs will continue their conference schedule Saturday, March 25, as they take on 23rd-ranked Brigham Young in Las Vegas. The MWC contest is scheduled for a 10 a.m. PST start.
