Aztec Women's Tennis Falls To Trojans

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The San Diego State women's tennis team was defeated by the No. 9 USC Trojans, 7-0 Tuesday afternoon at Marks Tennis Stadium in Los Angeles. The No. 62 Aztecs were outpaced by the Trojans, which puts SDSU at 6-3 on the season.
The first match to finish in doubles action was third doubles where Kathryn Kitts and Esther Cadua were outplayed by Alison Ramos and Maria Sanchez, 8-1. In their first loss of the season, 37th-ranked Holly Bagshaw and Julia Trunk dropped a decision to No. 34 Amanda Fink and Gabriela Niculescu, 8-1. Despite a strong effort, Sierra and Roxanne Ellison fell to No. 59 Fansler and Lyndsay Kinstler, 8-7 (3).
With the Trojans taking an early lead, San Diego State was forced to fight back in singles action. First singles was the first match to conclude with Trunk coming up short to No. 8 Sanchez, 6-1, 1-0 ret. In third singles, 66th-ranked Niculescu proved too much for Cioffi to handle, with the Aztec freshman falling in only her second match of the season, 6-0, 6-0. No. 33 Amanda Fink would clinch the win for the Trojans by taking down SDSU's Bagshaw, 6-1, 6-2, in second singles. In fourth singles action, Milana Yusupov was unable to take No. 88 Ramos, falling 6-0, 6-4. San Diego State's Olivia Colman and Cadua also fell to their USC opponents, completing the sweep for the Women of Troy.
The Aztecs three losses on the season all come to teams ranked in the top 50. SDSU will return home to face Sacramento State on Sunday, March 1, at 10:00 a.m. PT at the Aztec Tennis Center.
