Women's Tennis Rebounds Against LMU, 6-1

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team took little time to recover from Wednesday's loss to No. 6 USC, as the Aztecs handily defeated Loyola Marymount, 6-1, at Aztec Tennis Center. SDSU took the doubles point and all but one singles matches on Friday to move up to 4-3 on the season. The Aztecs came out strong in doubles play with senior Alicia Aguilar and freshman Isabelle Hoorn downing Kristine Kouyoumjian and Adriana Radinovic on court No. 3, 8-2. In second doubles, Julia Wais and Kristin Buth clinched the point by dismissing Reka Rohonyi and Lisa Piller by the identical score, 8-2. Michela Casanova and Laura Antonana Iriarte would not be able to get past April Bisharat and Claudia Razzeto in first doubles, 8-4. SDSU went on a tear in singles action as it picked up five out of six matches. First to finish was sixth singles with freshman Michela Casanova easily picking off Radinovic, 6-1, 6-1. Antonana Iriarte was sure not to come up short a second time on the day, downing Rohonyi, 6-0, 6-2. Aguilar would be the third Aztec in a row to post a win, 6-3, 6-1, over Razzeto. On court No. 4 freshman Tami Nguyen dropped the decision to Kouyoumjian, 6-2, 6-2. In fifth singles, Buth would pick up her second victory of the day, defeating Piller, 6-2, 6-2. On court No. 1, Wais would battle Bisharat, fighting for each point, eventually ending up on top, 6-7, 6-2, 10-6. The Aztecs will next travel to Hawaii to face Xavier on Feb. 28 at 12:30 pm HT and host Hawai'i on March 2 at 11 am HT. San Diego State 6, Loyola Marymount 1 Doubles Singles |
