SEATTLE - The 48th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at No. 20 Washington on Sunday at Nordstrom Tennis Center. The loss puts the Aztecs at 3-2 on the year, while the Huskies improve to 5-1.
Washington opened the dual match with a 1-0 lead after sweeping all three doubles matches, marking the first time SDSU has lost the doubles point in five matches this year.
The Huskies then went up, 3-0, after taking singles matches at Nos. 6 and 2. San Diego State finally got on the scoreboard when freshman Alicia Aguilar posted a tough, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, victory over Joyce Ardies at No. 4.
Washington, however, put an end to an Aztec comeback when Samantha Smith pulled out the 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Sierra Ellison to clinch the match for the home team.
Despite losing the dual match, Julia Trunk provided a bright spot for SDSU after she defeated No. 11 Venise Chan, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(5), at No. 1, to give the Aztecs their second team point.
