Aztec Women's Tennis Drops First Match Of The Season

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team was unable to take down UC Berkeley Friday evening despite winning the doubles point, 6-1. The Aztecs (4-1) made an impressive showing in doubles action but as singles action got underway they were unable to fight back the Golden Bears (3-0).
In first doubles, Bagshaw/Trunk picked up a decision against Cossou/Ilcinkas, 8-5. Roxanne and Sierra Ellison were able to down Andersson/Ravelojaona, 9-8 (6), in second doubles. In third doubles Esther Cadua and Kathryn Kitts were unable to complete the sweep in third doubles falling, 8-6, to Bobusic/Chang.
SDSU's only ranked player, No. 93 Julia Trunk, was taken down by 13th-ranked Marina Cossou, 7-5, 6-1, in first singles. In second singles, Holly Bagshaw could not hang on despite a hard fight ultimately falling to Mari Andersson, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6, (7-5). Senior Milana Yusupov was defeated by No. 30 Claire Ilcinkas, 6-1, 6-4, in third singles.
California's 15th-ranked Bojana Bobusic took down Cadua in fourth singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. In fifth and sixth singles, respectively, Olivia Colman and Roxanne Ellison fell to the Bears' Marion Ravelojaona and Stephany Chang.
Up next for SDSU will be Pepperdine at home on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. PT.
