Feb. 6, 2008
SAN DIEGO - The 50th-ranked San Diego State women's tennis team held off No. 69 Loyola Marymount for a 5-2 victory on Wednesday afternoon at the Aztec Tennis Center. After sweeping through doubles play, SDSU won four-of-six singles matches to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Esther Cadua and Julia Trunk continued their hot streak as they recorded an 8-4 triumph over Audrey Bulkley and Bliss Nixon at the No. 3 spot. The Aztec duo won their fourth-straight match together and improved to 8-2 overall.
Eliska Krausova and Holly Bagshaw clinched the doubles point on court 2 with an 8-5 victory over Tina Razloznik and Jasmin Heckel, before Kathryn Kitts and Sisse Nielsen completed the sweep by downing Pavla Mesterova and Tamara Tanner, 8-5, at the No. 1 position.
In singles action, Cadua was the first off the court, pinning a 6-3, 6-2 defeat on Heckel. Nielsen was the next to finish her match, as she defeated Shauna Morgan, 6-1, 6-3. Krausova, meanwhile, was not as fortunate, as she fell to Razloznik in straight sets at the No. 3 spot, but Bagshaw was able to clinch the match for the Aztecs by downing Tanner, 6-3, 6-4. Milana Yusupov rounded out the winners for SDSU as she hung on for a 6-1, 7-6(3) victory over Bulkley.
With the win, San Diego State avenges its 4-3 loss to the Lions last year and improves to 15-2 all-time against LMU.
The Aztecs will return to the courts on Saturday, Feb. 9, when they head north for a 1 p.m. match against No. 37 Long Beach State at El Dorado Park.
