Aztecs Divers To Compete At NCAA Zone E Regionals

Feb. 26, 2007

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State divers Caitlin Atkinson and Megan Flanagan will travel to Oklahoma City later this week to compete in the 2007 NCAA Zone E Diving Regionals. The event will be hosted by Air Force at the Oklahoma City Community College pool, site of the recently completed Mountain West Conference championship meet.

Both Atkinson and Flanagan qualified for the Regionals by meeting the minimum score of 265 points during a dual meet this past season. Atkinson, a freshman from Laguna Niguel, set the SDSU record with 273.15 points in the Aztecs' contest at the University of San Diego on Feb. 3. Flanagan, a sophomore from Oakdale, Minn., recorded her qualifying mark in mid-November during the meet at North Texas.

A total of 38 female divers representing 19 institutions will compete in the competition in Oklahoma City, which gets underway on Friday (March 2) at 10:00 a.m. (CST).

After each athlete completes six dives, the field will be trimmed to 18 athletes who will have another six dives. The scores from both rounds will be totaled and the top 13 will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be held at the University of Minnesota March 8-10.

Flanagan and Atkinson are the first two Aztec divers to ever qualify for the Zone Regionals.
