Championship Time
The San Diego State swimming and diving team (10-3 dual) will be in Oklahoma City Feb. 27-Mar. 2 for the 2002 Mountain West Conference Championships. Oklahoma City Community College will host the event for the third straight year. SDSU goes into the league meet having won seven of its last eight dual meets. The Aztecs closed the regular season by sweeping a double-dual with Loyola Marymount and Cal Poly on Jan. 25, and posted another win at Pepperdine a day later.

The Schedule
All eight league schools will be in attendance with competition scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday with the women's one-meter springboard preliminary event. The schedule for Thursday-Saturday has competition starting, with prelims, at 11 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. Diving finals will conclude each day's slate.

SDSU capped off last season with a sixth-place finish at the conference championships. The Aztecs set five school records at the event, with three of those coming in relay events. SDSU's school-best marks came in the 800 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Megan Storey set a record mark in the 1,650 free and junior Meghan Casillan in the 100 backstroke. Ten Aztecs scored points as a member of a relay team or on an individual basis at the championship meet.

For The Record
The Aztecs closed the regular season with 10 dual-meet wins, the most since the program was reinstated in 1994. The previous best was seven wins in 1999-2000 when the team went 7-7. That season SDSU posted four consecutive dual-meet wins, the most since being reinstated. This season SDSU posted four straight wins in dual competition between Dec. 8 and Jan. 18. The Aztecs also posted a three-meet win streak twice this year.

Aztecs Vs. The MWC
SDSU has faced five Mountain West Conference teams in dual competition this season, posting a 2-3 mark in those contests. The Aztecs defeated Air Force (93-47) and New Mexico (94-46) on Nov. 3 in San Diego and squared off against Brigham Young (L, 150-91) and Utah (L, 166-120) in each school's respective hometown in November. SDSU and UNLV met in a double-dual with Hawai'i on Jan. 18, with the Rebels getting the 176-117 win. The Aztecs got a taste of the other two league schools in invitational action, meeting up with Wyoming and Colorado State at the UCI Invite. SDSU also competed against UNLV, UNM and Wyoming swimmers at the UNLV Winter Invite in December.

Aztec Honors
Two SDSU swimmers have earned the league's swimmer of the week honor this season. Sophomore Megan Storey was named the Mountain West Conference's swimmer of the week on Dec. 13. The honor came following her two-win performance versus Northern Arizona. The honor was the second of her career and makes her the second Aztec to earn the weekly award this season. Senior Meghan Casillan was honored the week of Nov. 14 following a three-win performance at USD.

Cleaning Up
The Aztecs have placed first in 81 events thus far this season, 12 of those wins have come in relay competition. Forty-nine of the 69 wins in individual events come by way of four athletes. Sophomore Megan Storey has 15 victories, seniors Meghan Casillan and Heather DeFelice 14 and 12, respectively, and junior Erin Kilpatrick, eight.

Double Time
Senior Heather DeFelice is one of seven Aztecs to win two events in a meet this season, having performed the feat five times. Sophomore Megan Storey recorded her fifth double-victory outing of the year at Pepperdine. Junior Erin Kilpatrick has done so three times and senior Meghan Casillan, twice. Senior Tara Johnson and sophomores Jennifer Graham and Hannah Ryan have done so once. Casillan is the only Aztec to earn three wins in a meet, doing so at USD on Nov. 10.

The 1-2 Punch
The Aztecs have recorded 33 1-2 sweeps this season, with the most recent occuring in the 400 freestyle relay, 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley against Pepperdine on Jan. 26. SDSU has recorded three 1-2-3 sweeps and one 1-2-3-4 sweep this season.

On The List
Six Aztecs are listed among the Mountain West Conference's top-five times in several events this season. Senior Meghan Casillan has the league's second-best times in the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 58.03 and 2:05.24, respectively. Sophomore Aletta Haff is pacing Casillan in the 100 back with the fifth-fastest time of 58.43. Sophomore Megan Storey has four top-five marks, the third-best in the 1,650 free (17:01.34), and fourth-fastest in the 500 free (5:01.18), 1,000 free (10:17.31) and 200 butterfly (2:08.16). Junior Erin Kilpatrick is right behind Storey in the 1,000 free with the fifth-fastest clocking of 10:28.15 by a league swimmer this season. Senior Heather DeFelice is listed fifth in both the 50 free (23.90) and 200 breaststroke (2:21.40). DeFelice's time in the 50 free is a school record. Sophomore Jill Karacozoff has the MWC's fourth-fastest time in the 200 breaststroke.
