SDSU's Christina Ross Earns Second-Team NFCA All-West Region Honors

May 16, 2008

SAN DIEGO - Senior Christina Ross (Santa Clarita, Calif.) has been named an all-West Region selection by the NFCA. Ross earned second-team honors, the second time she was named to the second team (2006).

Ross, who was named the MWC Pitcher of the Year on Monday for the second time in her career, is 30-12 with a 0.95 ERA in 272 2/3 innings this season. She has a school record 262 strikeouts and has limited her opponents to a .202 batting average. Ross, who has been named the MWC Pitcher of the Week a league record nine times this season, also has a school-record 14 shutouts and has completed 29 of the 35 games she has started.

Ross also is the career SDSU record holder in solo shutouts (23), shutouts (tied, 28) and strikeouts (599), despite playing just three seasons for the Aztecs.

The Aztecs (43-15), who wrapped up their fourth Mountain West Conference regular season title with two victories at UNLV over the weekend, will play California (40-24) Friday (May 16) on the campus of Fresno State at 5 p.m. in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Division I Softball Regional Championship. SDSU earned the No. 2 seed in the regional, while the Bears, a team San Diego State defeated, 7-0, earlier in the year, are the No. 3 seed. The host Bulldogs (51-11) earned the No. 16 overall seed and first seed in the region and will face fourth-seeded Sacramento State (32-19) in the other region's pairing at approximately 7:30 p.m.
