Aztec Softball Not Selected to NCAA Tournament

May 16, 2004

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team was not selected to participate in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. The Aztecs finished the campaign with a 37-23 record (.617 winning percentage), 14-6 (.700) in the Mountain West Conference (second place).

This was the fourth consecutive season SDSU finished with a winning percentage greater than .600 and only the fourth time in the 28-year history of the program. The senior class of second baseman Joann Figueroa (Phoenix, Ariz.), center fielder Janna Kovensky (San Diego, Calif.) and third baseman Kelcy Murphy (San Diego, Calif.) went 158-91-1 (.634) in their four seasons to become by far the winningest class in San Diego State softball history. The three also helped lead the Aztecs to their first two NCAA Tournament appearances, as freshmen in 2001 and as juniors in 2003.
