The San Diego State softball team begins a busy week Tuesday night with a game against Iona at 7 p.m. PT. It will be the first of seven contests for the Aztecs (12-12) over five days.
SDSU meets the Gaels (4-9) at 7 p.m. PT Tuesday and Miami (OH) at 7 p.m. PT Wednesday, before hosting the San Diego Classic II from March 14-17. The 16 teams in this year's San Diego Classic II will play a combined 40 games across four fields.
The first day of the tournament will take place on Thursday at SDSU Softball Stadium, where Miami (OH) and UT-Arlington play at 1 p.m. PT, followed by San Diego State and Bryant at 3:30 p.m. PT and the Aztecs and San Jose State at 6 p.m. PT.
The Santee Complex will host the final three days of the classic with 15 games across three fields on Friday and Saturday, and seven more contests on Sunday.
SDSU is scheduled to play Buffalo on Friday (7 p.m. PT), and Seton Hall (4:30 p.m. PT) and Texas Tech (7 p.m. PT) on Saturday. San Diego State does not play on Sunday.
Nine of the Aztecs' 12 losses this season have come against nationally ranked schools. Additionally, 14 of the SDSU's 24 games this year have been against teams who made last year's NCAA tournament.
Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) leads the team in batting average (.387), hits (29), doubles (10), home runs (6), RBIs (21), total bases (61), slugging percentage (.813) and on-base percentage (.439). Senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) (.351, 14 RBI), junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (.338), senior Kristin May (Corona, Calif. (.333, 7 2B, 12 RBI) and sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista, Calif.) (.329, 4 HR, 14 RBI, 17 R) are also hitting above .300 for San Diego State.
Freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) (5-5, 1.84 ERA, 62.2 IP) and senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) (7-7, 2.13 ERA, 2.13 ERA, 95.1 IP) anchor a pitching staff that leads the Mountain West with a 2.06 ERA.
