LAS VEGAS -
The San Diego State softball team dropped a 9-7 decision to UNLV in the final regular season game for both teams Saturday in Las Vegas. The Aztecs (30-22, 9-3 MW), who clinched the Mountain West crown and automatic bid into the NCAA tournament yesterday with a 10-3 win over the Rebels (22-27, 3-9 MW), will find out where they are heading on the selection show on ESPNU at 7 p.m. PT Sunday.
SDSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead after its at-bat into the top of the second inning, but UNLV responded with seven straight scores. San Diego State scored one more time in the seventh, but it was too little, too late in the 9-7 loss.
Sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer to lead the Aztec offense, while classmate Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) led off the game with a home run, walked twice and scored a pair of runs. The homer gave her 49 RBIs, her 11th single-season record she has set this year.
Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) took the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings. Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) started and gave up four runs on three hits and two walks over 1 1/3 innings, while striking out one. Junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) yielded one run on two hits and a walk over an inning, earning two strikeouts.
Tomorrow's selection show viewing will be held at the Fowler Athletic Center and is open to the public,.
