Micetich, Miles Lead Softball Past St. Mary's 5-0
March 24, 2012
STOCKTON, Calif. - Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) tossed a complete game three-hit shutout and sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) had three hits to lift the San Diego State softball team to a 5-0 victory over Saint Mary's Saturday at the Libby Matson Tournament. The second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to impending inclement weather. Micetich (8-5) struck out 11 over the game, allowing just three singles and no walks. It was her second shutout of the season. Miles, meanwhile, continued her big weekend by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI. The two doubles give her 15 for the year, the most ever by an Aztec (18-17) in a single season. Miles has now reached base safely in 22 consecutive games. She finished the weekend by hitting .667 (8-for-12) with a homer, three doubles, four RBIs, two runs and a walk. Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) and sophomore Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) also drove in runs for SDSU, which took advantage of three Gael (10-15) errors and scored on two illegal pitches in the five-run win. Senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored, while senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.), redshirt junior Roshana Lavery (San Diego/Mission Bay HS) and redshirt freshman Wendy Tamayo (San Diego/Mater Dei Catholic HS) each scored a run apiece. San Diego State travels to Tucson, Ariz., to play top-15 team Arizona on March 27 (7 p.m. MST (also 7 p.m. PT) and March 28 (3 p.m. MST (also 3 p.m. PT).
