Kelsey Booth Named MW Offensive Player of the Week
Oct. 21, 2013
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
San Diego State junior Kelsey Booth has been named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. The weekly award is the second career honor for the midfielder/forward from Concord, Calif.
The two-year letterwinner helped the Aztecs beat UNLV and Nevada last week at home to keep SDSU atop the MW standings. For the week, Booth tallied two goals, one of which propelled the Aztecs to victory.
In the outing vs. UNLV, Booth scored on a header in the 26th minute to give San Diego State its second goal of a 3-0 win. During her time in the game, the junior was an offensive threat anytime she shot the ball as both of her attempts were on net. Booth's goal was her first of the season.
Two days later vs. Nevada, Booth attempted three shots, with one coming on goal, up until 89th minute. It was only then that Booth's fourth and final attempt proved to be the difference maker as she took a long free kick from Carli Johnson, chipped it over the Wolf Pack goalkeeper and into in the net from eight yards out to lift SDSU to a 2-1 win.
This is the third MW Offensive Player of the Week award for the Aztecs and the fourth weekly conference honor overall this season. Hannah Keane earned offensive accolades on Sept. 23 and 30, and Johnson was recognized as the league's top defensive player on Sept. 23.
Mountain West co-leader San Diego State will continue its MW regular-season title defense this week when it travels to Boise State and Utah State. The Aztecs will face the Broncos on Friday and the Aggies on Sunday.
