SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team is ranked No. 12 in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll, while the Aztecs are No. 17 in the Soccer America rankings and No. 13 in the Soccer Times poll. SDSU is the lone team from the Mountain West in all three polls.
The Aztecs are also still at No. 3 in the NSCAA Pacific Region poll, trailing only UCLA (2) and Stanford (1). Fellow MW member New Mexico is also in the rankings in a three-way tie for 10th.
SDSU, which is No. 23 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's field of 64, is coming off a 2-0 weekend as it tallied victories against UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. On Friday against UCI, the Aztecs picked up a 3-2 win behind two goals from junior Jensen Skinner and one from senior Megan Jurado. Then in Sunday's contest with UCSB, Jurado notched the game-winner for SDSU at the 33:06 mark after having also scored in the 28th minute as SDSU was victorious, 3-1. Freshman Victoria Barba also scored in the contest for her first collegiate goal.
San Diego State's success resulted in an Aztec receiving MW Player of the Week accolades for the fifth time this season. It was Jurado who garnered honors on Monday, as the San Jose, Calif., native picked up her second award of 2012.
The Aztecs return to action on Friday when they open Mountain West play at home against Nevada. The conference tilt is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start at the SDSU Sports Deck.
