Megan Jurado Named MW Offensive Player of the Week
Sept. 24, 2012
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State forward Megan Jurado has been named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. This marks the senior's second award this season and it is the fifth time an Aztec has been honored by the conference in 2012. The San Jose, Calif., native played a key role in leading No. 17/25/18 San Diego State to a 2-0 weekend as she tallied seven points en route to victories against UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara. On Friday vs. UCI, Jurado notched the game-tying goal (2-2) at the 56:14 mark en route to SDSU's 3-2 win over UC Irvine. Then against UCSB on Sunday, Jurado was a part of all three scores in a 3-1 road victory. Jurado scored the first of her two goals at the 27:47 mark off of a pass from Jensen Skinner to put SDSU up, 1-0. Less than six minutes later at 33:06, Jurado gave the Aztecs a 2-0 advantage when she put a deflection off of a UCSB defender into the net. With the score 2-1 late in the second half, Jurado helped put the nail in the coffin as she assisted on a goal by Victoria Barba for her fifth point of the match. San Diego State returns to action on Friday when it open Mountain West play at home against Nevada. The conference tilt is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start at the SDSU Sports Deck.
