Tiffany Hurst Named MW Defensive Player of the Week
Sept. 3, 2012
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State defender/midfielder Tiffany Hurst has been named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. This marks the second time the redshirt senior has received the award.
The Santa Rosa, Calif., native helped guide No. 25 San Diego State to a dominating 1-0 victory over No. 5/13 Pepperdine at the SDSU Sports Deck.
Hurst played all 90 minutes on Friday and her stellar defensive play helped limit the Waves to just three shots, including one on goal. Her play in the midfield stifled Pepperdine's offense and helped the Aztecs control the possession as they notched their fifth consecutive shutout on the season.
SDSU (5-0) returns to action on Friday when it opens play in the Minnesota Gold Classic. The Aztecs will play Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 7 and then face off with Iowa State on Sunday, Sept. 9. Both contests will be held at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
