SDSU Women's Soccer Ends Non-Conference Play with Scoreless Tie vs. LMU

Oct. 5, 2008

Final Stats

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team (4-6-2) concluded its non-conference schedule with a scoreless tie in double overtime against Loyola Marymount (5-4-3) at SDSU Sports Deck on Sunday afternoon.

The Aztecs were in control for most of the game with a 12-6 advantage in shots, while also leading in corner kicks, 9-2, but they were unable to capitalize on their opportunities. Sophomore Cat Walker led the Scarlet and Black with a game-high four attempts, including one on goal, while freshman Tiffany Hurst and senior Alicia Piz each took a pair of shots.

San Diego State had a strong defensive performance, allowing LMU to get just two shots off in the first half. In the second period, the Lions started to put a little more pressure on the Aztecs with four attempts in the final 18:38 of regulation.

One of SDSU's best chances to get on the board came in the second minute of action when Walker drilled a shot from the top of the box, but LMU goalkeeper Allyssa Clark was able to get a hand on it and punch the ball over the crossbar.

The Aztecs had another opportunity to win the game in the first extra period as junior Jessica Gordon was able to get in front of her defender for a sliding shot that went just over the top of the goal.

San Diego State continues Mountain West Conference action on the road this week as it heads to Utah for a 7 p.m. (MT) match on Thursday, Oct. 9. The Aztecs will then make their way to Brigham Young two days later for an 8 p.m. (MT) contest.
