Aug 17, 2013
FULLERTON, Calif. -
Each side used three goalkeepers and all six were able to keep the opposition off the scoreboard. For the Aztecs, who played with 10 players for 64 minutes after a red card was issued, Melanie Vaughn earned the start and made three saves while playing all 45 minutes in the first half. Splitting time in the second half for SDSU were Elise Nord and Sophia Trujillo, who each logged three stops and virtually split equal time in the final 45. For CSUF, the Titans used three keepers and denied all five of San Diego State's shot attempts.
Offensively, SDSU newcomer Katie Perry led the team with four shots and Tiffany Geer added one, which was on goal. For Cal State Fullerton, the Titans were led by Lauren Stupin's six shots and three shots on goal. Rebecca Nelson added three shots (one on goal) and Kishi Smith put both of her attempts on goal to help CSUF put pressure on the San Diego State goalkeepers.
At the final horn, the Titans led San Diego State in shots (16-5) and corner kicks (3-1). The Aztecs, meanwhile, held the edge in saves, 9-1.
SDSU will have one more week of preparations before facing the Women of Troy on Aug. 23, at USD at 5 p.m. PT.
