"It will be a little strange playing against (Pickett)," White said. "But when we get on the field, it's funny how quickly you forget who you're playing. It's competition. I think it's a great opportunity for her. It's unique when you get to be able to play against one of your own athletes."
Canada continues Pool A play against England on Saturday, Wales on Sunday, and concludes against USA on July 16. Australia concludes Pool A play against USA on Saturday and against England on July 16.
Pickett is a former member of the U-19 Australian National team, and has represented South Australia in nine national competitions. She helped lead South Australia to a national championship victory in 2010, and was a key player on the Brighton Bombers Lacrosse club team that won three-straight league championships.
Meanwhile, White is playing in the Women's Lacrosse World Cup for the fourth time in her career. In 2009, she led Canada to its first bronze medal in 27 years. In the 2005 tournament, White ranked in the top five for caused turnovers per game, and was nominated for the All-World team.
"I think I'm a much better player now than I ever was before from having this experience coaching, just understanding the game and emotions better," White said. "I'm very excited to play in front of my home crowd. I've never experienced that. I think the Canadian support will be outstanding, so that will be fun."
