SAN DIEGO -
The San Diego State lacrosse team wraps up its regular season this weekend with a pair of games in the Bay Area. The Aztecs (4-9, 1-4 MPSF) will play at Saint Mary's at 4 p.m. PT Friday and at Stanford at 1 p.m. PT Sunday.
SDSU still has an outside chance of making the MPSF Tournament, but will need some help. With a 1-4 conference record, San Diego State is currently ranked sixth of the eight teams and will need to finish in the top four to participate in the tournament. The winner of the MPSF Tournament, which will take place on April 27-29 at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif., earns an automatic bid into the NCAA Play-In game.
Denver and Oregon are each tied in first place with a 4-0 conference record. California is third at 4-2, followed by UC Davis (2-2) and Stanford (1-1) in fourth, the Aztecs (1-4) in sixth, Saint Mary's (0-3) in seventh and Fresno State (0-4) in eighth.
Meris Walsh continues to lead SDSU in scoring with 44 points on 42 goals and two assists. Among the conference leaders, Walsh leads all with 13 free-position goals and 1.00 free-position goals per game, and ranks third in goals per game (3.23) and shots per game (6.85). Bailey Ewing's 31 points on 19 goals and 12 assists are second on the team, followed by Sophie Koubek (21 goals, one assist) and Lauren Maack (12 goals, eight assists).
Christina Ricciardulli leads San Diego State in ground balls (28) and draw controls (37), and is second in caused turnovers (13). Her 2.15 ground balls per game are third in the MPSF. Koubek's 15 caused turnovers tops the Aztecs.
Sammy Slattery has played the majority of time between the pipes for SDSU and is 4-9 with a 14.09 goals against average over 745 minutes, 6 seconds. Slattery ranks third in the league in saves per game (8.92) and fifth in save percentage (.399).
The Gaels head into Friday's game with a 2-8 overall record and 0-3 mark in the MPSF. Earlier this season on March 3, San Diego State defeated SMC, 11-10, at Aztec Lacrosse Field.
