Recapping The Kent Youel Invitational Despite its best 54-hole score of the season, SDSU claimed a 15th-place finish at the Oct. 28-30 Kent Youel Invitational in Kapolei, Hawaii. The Aztecs had their streak of five consecutive rounds with all four counting scores in the 70s snapped in the second round, but they still shot 308-318-311--937 for a 73-over total that bested a 942 recorded at the Price's/New Mexico State tournament.
Junior Sandy Kim played her best 54-hole event of the season in Hawaii and tied for 24th place. She shot a season-low 73 in the second round en route to a 226 that bettered her previous best 54-hole score of the season by 12 shots.
A final-round 74 allowed junior Shayna Miyajima to jump five spots in the standings and grab a share of 28th place at 228. A second-round 81 snapped Miyajima's string of eight consecutive rounds in the 70s.
Senior Claire Riley shot three straight rounds of 79 for a 237 total and a tie for 58th place. Riley and Kim each have a current streak of six consecutive rounds in the 70s.
Senior Jennifer Hoene and freshman Brittany Bailey rounded out the Aztec lineup with 76th- and 87th-place results, respectively.
Watch Out For Dropping Scores Only the end of the fall schedule can impede SDSU's continued improvement this season. After finishing at 105-over in their first 54-hole event of the season, the Aztecs have registered +78 and +73 totals in their last two three-round tournaments, respectively. And in-between those two events, the Aztecs matched their second-best 36-hole score of all time with a 606 at the Oct. 21-22 Matador Fall Classic.
Head Coach Felicia Brown Head coach Felicia Brown is in her first season at the helm of the SDSU golf program after serving as assistant coach last season. Brown prepped locally at San Marcos High School before playing collegiately at Arizona. She boasts professional playing and teaching experience on the Players' West Golf Tour and the LPGA teaching division, respectively.
