SDSU Continues Fall Slate In Colorado
The San Diego State women's golf team returns to the road this week for the 54-hole 2009 Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational in Erie, Colo. The Aztecs are playing in the Heather Farr Invite for the third year in a row and the fifth time overall in the 12-year history of the event, which will be played at the par-72, 6,350-yard Colorado National Golf Club.

The tournament includes 54 holes of golf with two rounds Monday, followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days begin at 8:30 a.m. MT with a shotgun start and live scoring will be available via a link on the front page of goaztecs.com.

The Aztecs are coming off a 12th-place finish at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational two weeks ago, where SDSU took on a field of six schools ranked in the top 30 nationally. This week, the Aztecs will be joined by 19 other teams, including No. 43 Texas Tech and fellow MWC foes Colorado State and Wyoming. Two members of the No. 5 team in the nation, Denver, will also compete, but SDSU has the second-best rating among the 18 other full squads.

The Aztecs placed eighth at last year's Heather Farr Invite and won the 2000 edition behind the play of medalist Joanne Clingan.

Cole To Make Her 2009-10 Debut This Week
First-year head coach Emilee Klein will adjust her starting five just slightly for this week's second tournament of the 2009-10 season. SDSU redshirt senior Petra Cole (San Diego, Calif.) will make her season debut, joining juniors Stephanie Arcala (Oceanside, Calif.) and Samantha Roberts (Carlsbad, Calif.), sophomore Malin Enarsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) and freshman Christine Wong (Richmond, B.C.).

Enarsson, Roberts, Arcala and Cole all played at last year's Heather Farr Invite, which actually took place in Broomfield, Colo. Wong, meanwhile, was SDSU top golfer in the opener in New Mexico, giving the team a solid group heading into this week.

Flashback: 2008 Heather Farr/CU Memorial
The San Diego State women's golf squad posted one of its most memorable performances of the 2008-09 campaign by placing eighth place at the 2008 Heather Farr/CU Memorial Invitational in Broomfield, Colo.

The Aztecs' two-day score of 21-over 885 tied as the second best in school history for a 54-hole tournament, while the 290 in the final round was the team's top 18 holes of the year.

Then freshman Malin Enarsson led the Aztec charge with her first career top-10 finish, posting a 71 over the final 18 holes to tie for eighth place at 1-under 215. Enarsson's total tied for second in school history and she became the first SDSU golfer to finish under par in a 54-hole event since Jenna Wilson shot a school-record 5-under 211 at the 2003 Lady Aztec Invitational.

Samantha Roberts' 54-hole score of 5-over 221 tied her for 28th place on the individual leaderboard and was her career-low by 17 strokes. Stephanie Arcala, meanwhile, tied for 42nd place with teammate Maki Kamimura at 9-over 225.

Petra Cole rounded out the Aztec contingent with a 240, including a tournament-best 79 over the final 18 holes.

Last Time Out: Aztecs 12th In Season-Opener
The San Diego State women's golf team finished 12th at its first event of the season, posting a 29-over 905 at the 30th annual Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., Sept. 19-20.

San Diego State's 12th-place team finish was a one spot improvement from last year tournament and is the program's second-best showing in seven tries at the Dick McGuire Invite since 2002.

SDSU freshman Christine Wong was the team's top finisher in her first collegiate event, posting two sub-par rounds and ending up 15th at 1-over 220.

Teammate Malin Enarsson improved by 21 slots from 56th to 35th in the final round with her even-par 73 to card a 54-hole total of 7-over 226. Aztec freshman Gina Clark (Murrieta, Calif.) dropped from 42nd to 62nd place on the final day with a 12-over 231. Sophomore Stephanie Arcala placed 79th with a 232, while junior Samantha Roberts ended up in a tie for 84th place with a 18-over 237.

Coming Attractions
After the early October trip to the Rockies, San Diego State will return to New Mexico for the Price's "Give `Em Five" Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., Oct. 12-14. Also that week, the SDSU `B' squad will compete at the two-day Aztec Fall Classic at the Salt Creek Golf Club in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Aztecs round out the fall campaign at the Turtle Bay Resort in Kahuku, Hawaii, Nov. 2-4.
